Fran and Jack Harris Memorial Regatta

Fran and Jack Harris

The Fran and Jack Harris Memorial Regatta, formerly known as the Great Canoe/Kayak Race, was established in 1953 after Fran and Jack Harris bought their property on Salmon Lake. Today, the tradition is continued through the dedication and hard work of Fran and Jack Harris’ children and their families, along with lake resident Terry Henry. Together, they plan and coordinate the race each year on the Saturday of the August long weekend. Their duties include boat registration at the Harris’ dock before 10:00am, documenting finish times, and distributing medals to the winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th) of all race classes. Additionally, they purchase and present individual prizes to all participants, and they always manage to have just as much fun as the participants themselves!
