About The Event

Get ready for the best event of the year! The Salmon Lake Picnic and Fran and Jack Harris Memorial Regatta are back and better than ever! For decades, these events have been a beloved tradition among cottagers and visitors alike, and we're excited to invite you to join us this year!

Hosted by the Salmon Lake Cottage Owners' Association (SALACOA), the annual Salmon Lake Picnic is a can't-miss event for all lake residents, their families, and friends. From 12:00 to 5:00 pm on the Saturday of the August long weekend every year, the entire lake community comes together for a day filled with delicious food, exciting games, and great company.

The SALACOA Executive, along with many dedicated volunteers, works tirelessly to ensure that the event is a huge success year after year. We're grateful for the dedication of the many volunteers who contribute their time and effort to make the picnic possible, and we'd like to give a special shoutout to the families and individuals who have donated prizes over the years.

The Fran and Jack Harris Memorial Regatta, formerly known as the Great Canoe/Kayak Race, was established in 1953 after Fran and Jack Harris bought their property on Salmon Lake. Today, the tradition is continued through the dedication and hard work of Fran and Jack Harris’ children and their families, along with lake resident Terry Henry. Together, they plan and coordinate the race each year on the Saturday of the August long weekend. Their duties include boat registration at the Harris’ dock before 10:00am, documenting finish times, and distributing medals to the winners of all race classes. Additionally, they purchase and present individual prizes to all participants, and they always manage to have just as much fun as the participants themselves!

We couldn't make this event happen without the help of our amazing volunteers. There are plenty of ways to get involved, from soliciting local businesses for donations to preparing and serving delicious food. We even need ticket sellers to sell advance raffle tickets for the main draw prizes and hand out picnic information packages door to door!

Other volunteer opportunities include site preparation and clean-up, leading picnic games and swim races, and more. Whatever your skills and interests, we have a role for you!

So, mark your calendars and get ready for an unforgettable day of fun, food, and festivities at the Salmon Lake Picnic and Fran and Jack Harris Memorial Regatta. We can't wait to see you there!
